Laura Elizabeth Herrick, a cherished mother and longtime hospice nurse known for her compassion and generosity, is being remembered by family, friends and those whose lives she touched following her sudden death at her home on August 23, 2026. She was 47.
Laura was born September 9, 1978, in Williston, North Dakota, and later made her home in Horace. After graduating from Shanley High School in Fargo, she pursued a career in nursing, ultimately finding purpose in hospice care.
As a hospice nurse, Laura spent much of her professional life caring for people and families during some of their most difficult moments. Her work required patience, empathy and an ability to provide comfort during the final stages of a person’s life.
Those qualities also reflected the way she was remembered outside of work. Laura was known for her warm spirit, generosity and willingness to show kindness to others. For the families she served, her presence offered reassurance at times when compassion mattered most.
Her greatest joy, however, was her family, particularly her son, Cohen, who was described as the center of her world. Laura took special pride in watching him play hockey and could often be found cheering him on from the sidelines.
She also had a deep affection for animals and was remembered as someone who readily extended kindness to both friends and strangers.
Laura is survived by her son, Cohen; stepson, Logan; father, David; uncles, aunts, cousins and her special friend, Ryan. She was preceded in death by her mother, Cathy, and her brother, Benjamin.
Her death has left those closest to her facing the sudden absence of someone whose life was centered around caring for others. Family and friends are remembering her laughter, generosity and the warmth she brought into their lives.
Her professional legacy will also continue through the people and families she cared for as a hospice nurse. The comfort she provided during difficult final chapters of other people’s lives became an important part of the legacy she leaves behind.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Boulger Funeral Home and Celebration of Life Center.
Although Laura’s life ended suddenly, the memories she created with her family, friends and the people she cared for will continue to endure. She will be remembered not only as a mother and nurse, but as a woman whose compassion became a defining part of the lives she touched.
For those mourning her loss, Laura’s legacy is found in the people she loved, the patients she comforted and the countless acts of kindness that made her presence meaningful.
