The Bozeman community is mourning the death of Samuel Hale, 23, who died following a vehicle crash in Gallatin Canyon early Friday morning.
According to the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office, the fatal collision occurred shortly after 2 a.m. as Hale was traveling northbound on U.S. Highway 191 in a Chevrolet Silverado. The crash happened near mile marker 54, in the area of Portal Creek and the Karst neighborhood.
Authorities reported that the Chevrolet Silverado left the roadway and struck a tree. Emergency responders transported Hale to Bozeman Health Big Sky Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.
Officials determined that Hale died from blunt force injuries and classified his death as accidental.
The Montana Highway Patrol’s fatality report indicated that roadway conditions were dry at the time of the crash. Investigators also reported that speed was suspected to have contributed to the collision.
