The Slippery Rock University community is mourning the tragic death of Amanda E. Montgomery, a 36-year-old university employee who was killed in a head-on collision Thursday afternoon, August 27, 2026, in Venango Township, Butler County.
Amanda was a passenger in a GMC Acadia when the vehicle crossed into the opposite lane of travel and collided with a Ford F-150 XLT shortly before 4 p.m. in the area of 318 Eau Claire Road, according to information surrounding the crash.
Amanda was pronounced dead following the collision. Three other people were taken to area hospitals for treatment, including a 3-year-old boy. Tributes shared after the crash indicated that one of Amanda’s children was among those injured.
Her death has left family members, friends, coworkers and members of the Slippery Rock University community struggling with the sudden loss of a woman remembered for her warmth and devotion to the people around her.
Amanda was remembered as a loving wife, devoted mother and caring friend. Those who knew her described a person whose kindness and compassion made a lasting impression on the people fortunate enough to have her in their lives.
She was also a valued member of the Slippery Rock University community. Amanda joined the university’s facilities team at Bailey Library in November 2024, becoming part of the daily life of the campus and the community it serves.
For her colleagues, news of her death has brought a painful sense of absence. Someone who had become a familiar part of the university environment is now being remembered through the relationships she formed with coworkers and others across campus.
The loss is particularly devastating for Amanda’s family. At only 36, she was a wife and mother whose life revolved around the people she loved. Her sudden death has created a void that will be felt by her children, husband, relatives and friends for years to come.
Tributes following the crash have also expressed concern and support for those who survived the collision. The three people transported to hospitals are receiving attention as their loved ones await their recovery.
The circumstances that caused the GMC Acadia to cross into the opposite lane remain under investigation. Authorities have not released a complete account of what led to the collision.
As investigators work to establish the circumstances surrounding the crash, the Slippery Rock University community is coming together to mourn Amanda and support those affected by the tragedy.
Her legacy will remain through her family, her children, her friendships and the colleagues with whom she worked. For those who knew Amanda, her life will be remembered not simply for the tragic circumstances of her death, but for the love, kindness and care she gave to others during the years she shared with them.
