The Inman community is mourning the death of Adam Blake Mast, 37, who died after suffering a gunshot wound during a shooting at a residence on Gowan Road. Mast’s death came after he spent more than a day receiving treatment for his injuries, leaving family members, friends and others who knew him grieving while authorities continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
According to information released by the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to a residence on Gowan Road at approximately 7 a.m. Wednesday, August 26, 2026, following a report of a shooting.
When deputies arrived, they found Mast suffering from a single gunshot wound. He was transported to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center in critical condition, where medical personnel continued treating him.
Despite efforts to save his life, Mast’s condition remained critical. Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger reported that Mast was pronounced brain dead at approximately 4 p.m. Thursday, August 27.
His death transformed the shooting investigation into a homicide case as authorities continued working to determine exactly what happened at the Gowan Road residence.
Authorities identified Jasmine Marie Sanders, 35, as a suspect in connection with the shooting. Sanders was initially arrested and charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
Following Mast’s death, the attempted-murder charge was upgraded to murder. According to authorities, Sanders also faces three counts of unlawful conduct toward a child. She remains in custody at the Spartanburg County Detention Facility without bond, according to the information provided.
The charges against Sanders are allegations, and she remains entitled to due process. A final determination of guilt or responsibility will be made through the court system.
Investigators have not released every detail concerning the events that preceded the shooting. Information about the relationship between Mast and Sanders, the circumstances inside the residence and a possible motive has not been fully disclosed.
