A 28-year-old Conshohocken man was killed early Thursday morning after the dump truck he was driving crashed into another construction vehicle in a work zone on Interstate 476 in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.
The victim was identified as Josh Adens, 28, of Conshohocken, according to Pennsylvania State Police and local reports.
The crash happened at approximately 2:30 a.m. Thursday, August 27, 2026, on northbound I-476 near mile marker 25.3 in Whitpain Township. Police said the highway was operating through an active work zone at the time, with the left and center lanes closed while traffic was permitted to use the right lane.
Authorities said Adens was driving a 2004 Mack tri-axle dump truck in the open right lane when the vehicle suddenly veered into the closed center lane. The dump truck then struck a 2023 Freightliner water truck that was parked within the work zone. (
The impact caused catastrophic injuries to Adens. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office, authorities said.
The operator of the water truck, a 61-year-old man from McAlisterville, was not injured in the collision.
The crash prompted the closure of northbound I-476 for several hours as emergency personnel, investigators and highway crews worked at the scene. The roadway was eventually reopened after the wreckage and other hazards were cleared.
Investigators have not publicly determined why Adens’ dump truck left the open lane and entered the work zone. The circumstances surrounding the fatal collision remain under investigation.
The death of Adens has brought grief to the Conshohocken community as authorities continue working to establish the full sequence of events leading to the crash.
