Sherry M. Wears, 61, of Putnam County, was killed Friday morning in a two-vehicle crash along U.S. Route 35 near Plantation Road, authorities said.
The crash happened at approximately 6 a.m. Friday, August 28, 2026, according to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office. Emergency crews responded to the scene as authorities shut down portions of Route 35 in both directions while the crash was investigated and the roadway was cleared.
Sheriff Bobby Eggleton confirmed that Wears, who was from Plantation Road in Putnam County, died as a result of injuries sustained in the collision. Another person involved in the crash was transported to a hospital, according to the sheriff’s office.
The roadway was temporarily closed following the crash, creating disruptions for morning motorists. The West Virginia Department of Transportation later confirmed that Route 35 had reopened after emergency crews completed their work at the scene.
